89/100

Marbles Unhinged takes a tired old genreβ€”the mobile tilt mazeβ€”and completely reinvents it by turning the device's hardware structure into an active puzzle tool. Being able to fold the display to instantly spawn a ramp or bank a rolling marble off a vertical wall feels genuinely magical. It treats the physical form factor as part of the puzzle design rather than just a window to look through.

The progression through different worlds keeps the gameplay sharp, introducing mechanics like mirror reflections and impulse snaps just when you think you've mastered the basics. The physics feel crisp, responsive, and satisfyingly tactile. If you appreciate clever puzzle design that thinks outside ordinary rectangular boundaries, this folding maze is an absolute must-play.

Let's be frank: gimmick-driven puzzle games live and die by how well their core mechanical hook integrates into the actual level design. Marbles Unhinged uses the folding screen architecture as its central identity, making the hinge a literal part of the maze boundary. Guiding a marble across two folding planes feels genuinely novel during the first few stages, forcing your brain to rethink spatial awareness and gravity as angles shift beneath your virtual fingers.

Yet, once you peel back the clever hardware utilization, you are left with a fairly standard marble-guiding physics puzzle. The challenges begin to feel repetitive, and the precision required can occasionally cross the line from satisfying skill expression into frustrating trial-and-error. For a veteran gamer who has seen countless tilt-maze variations come and go since the early days of mobile gaming, this feels like an inventive afternoon distraction rather than a lasting masterpiece. It is worth checking out for the hardware showcase alone, but don't expect a deep, substantive campaign.

  • Clever integration of folding screen mechanics into physics puzzles
  • Clean, minimalist visual presentation with satisfying marble weight
  • Refreshes a tired genre layout with creative spatial geometry
  • Gameplay loop grows repetitive quickly due to limited mechanical variance
  • Highly dependent on specific device form factors for full effect

A marble maze made for iPhone Duo, where the hinge is part of the board. Plays on any iPhone or iPad.

Marbles Unhinged is the first must-have game for iPhone Duo.

It's a marble maze where the two screens are two halves of one board and the hinge is a second control. Tilt to roll the marble. Fold to turn the floor into a ramp, a wall, or a drop.

WHAT THE HINGE DOES

β€’ Fold: bend the top half and its floor becomes a ramp. The steeper the fold, the faster the roll.

β€’ Wall: stand the top half up and bank the marble off it.

β€’ Snap: snap the hinge and the marble leaves the floor.

β€’ Rock: rock the whole phone and gravity shifts on both halves at once.

EVERY WORLD BENDS THE RULES

1. The Fold: ramps, angle gates, ice and rails.

2. Duo: two marbles, two screens, one tilt.

3. Mirror: the top half is a reflection of the bottom.

4. Impulse: snap the hinge to throw the marble across the crease.

5. Unhinged: every trick from the first four on one board. COMING SOON.

Chase three stars on every level and climb the Game Center leaderboards.

Made for iPhone Duo. Plays on any iPhone or iPad with an on-screen hinge.

The first levels of each world are free. All unlocks are one-time purchases. No subscriptions.

Marbles Unhinged: Folding Maze is an innovative puzzle game designed to exploit folding display mechanics and device orientations. The screen acts as two halves of a single interactive board where the physical or virtual hinge functions as an active control element. Players tilt to roll marbles while bending, snapping, or rocking the device to reshape floors into ramps, bank walls, or launch spheres across chasms. Across multiple rule-bending worlds featuring duo layouts, mirrors, and impulse triggers, it offers a fresh spin on classic tilt-maze gameplay.

Q&A

Folding bends the top screen half so its floor acts as a ramp, steepens roll speeds, functions as a bouncing wall, or triggers impulses to launch marbles across the crease.
