Super Hexagon is a brutal, rhythmic, and utterly perfect piece of game design. Terry Cavanagh has stripped the action genre down to its barest essentials: you are a triangle, there are walls, and you must not touch them. The game's difficulty is legendary, but it never feels unfair. Every time you 'Game Over' (which will be every few seconds at first), you immediately know what you did wrong and find yourself hitting 'Restart' before you've even processed the loss.
The synergy between the visuals and Chipzel’s pounding chiptune soundtrack is what creates the 'trance' state the game is famous for. As the screen pulses and rotates in time with the music, your conscious brain turns off, and your reflexes take over. Reaching the 60-second mark on any level—which triggers an evolution to a faster speed—feels like a monumental achievement. It is a masterclass in minimalism, proving that you don't need complex stories or high-end graphics to create one of the most compelling and addictive experiences on the App Store.
I don't hand out scores this high often. Super Hexagon is a masterclass in 'less is more.' It doesn't waste your time with stories or tutorials. It just asks: 'Can you survive for 10 seconds?' and when you fail, it lets you try again instantly. This is the kind of design that was lost when games started trying to be movies.
The synergy between the visuals and the music creates a flow state that few games can match. It’s infuriating, yes, but it’s never unfair. If you die, it’s because you weren't fast enough. My only complaint is that after an hour, your eyes feel like they’re going to bleed from the screen shaking. It's a game for the patient and the skilled, a rare breed in the mobile space.

Super Hexagon is a minimalist action game that tests your reflexes and rhythm. You control a small triangle rotating around a central hexagon, dodging incoming walls that pulse to the beat of an incredible chiptune soundtrack by Chipzel. With six stages of increasing difficulty—ranging from 'Hexagon' to the soul-crushing 'Hyper Hexagonest'—the game is a pure test of skill. Surviving for 60 seconds in any mode unlocks new challenges and shifts the game into a higher gear. It is widely considered one of the most challenging and rewarding arcade games on mobile.

When you see a series of walls forming a 'C' shape, don't try to react to each wall individually. Instead, focus on the rhythmic 'tap-tap-tap' needed to rotate through the openings. Training your ears to the beat of the music is often more effective than relying on your eyes.

To unlock the 'Hyper' versions of each stage, you must survive for a full 60 seconds in the base version. Reaching 60 seconds in the final 'Hyper Hexagonest' mode is considered the ultimate victory in the game.
