Doodle Army is the kind of game that proliferated back when everyone thought 'hand-drawn' was a legitimate substitute for actual art direction. As a 40-year-old who appreciates craftsmanship, this 'notebook' aesthetic just looks lazy to me now. The shooting is competent enough, I suppose, but there's no real weight to it. You just hold the trigger and run right until something kills you.
The weapon variety is the only thing keeping it from being a total wash, but even then, the balance is non-existent. Once you get a decent automatic weapon, you just spray the screen. There’s no tactical depth, no clever level design—just a chaotic mess of stick figures and explosions. It’s fine for a five-minute distraction if you’re waiting for a coffee, but it lacks the substance required for any serious play. It’s a relic of a time when mobile gaming was just trying to figure out what it was.
