The extraction-horror genre is having a moment, and Tomb Busters is an explicitly intentional attempt to bring that specific flavor of panic-inducing cooperative gameplay to phones. Conceptually, it works incredibly well if you have a reliable group of friends. Dropping into a dark, claustrophobic tomb with three other people, trying to hoard jade statues while trying to avoid an Eastern folklore spirit over walkie-talkie audio, is genuinely hilarious. The match pacing is snappy—most runs wrap up or end in total squad wipes within five minutes, making it highly replayable. The integration of traditional Chinese horror monsters gives it a distinct visual flair. However, the game completely loses its identity if you queue solo. Without real-time voice coordination, the artificial boundaries of the design become painful. The baseline movement speeds are sluggish, the walk back from the tomb entrance to your corporate ship feels intentionally drawn out to build tension, but just ends up feeling like busywork when you are alone. Furthermore, the progression system is tied to standard free-to-play character gacha elements, which dilutes the pure survival sandbox feel. It is a fantastic party game for an evening, but it lacks the organic depth of its PC inspirations.
