If you enjoyed the 'poker-roguelike' vibes of Balatro but wanted something you could play more passively, 'This Ain’t Even Poker, Ya Joker' is the game for you. It takes that satisfying feeling of building a perfect deck and translates it into an incremental clicker format that is almost impossible to put down.

The progression feels perfectly paced—every time you feel like you're hitting a wall, you unlock a new mechanic like Expeditions or a new Deck that boosts your numbers into the stratosphere. The art is weird and characterful, and the 'Jester' theme provides a great sense of rivalry. It's the kind of game that 'ruins' your productivity in the best way possible.

I appreciate a good subversion of genre, but this game feels like it was designed by someone who thinks random equals funny. It takes the foundation of poker and throws in 'jokers' that basically break the game rules every five seconds. For a conservative player who likes strategy, the randomness is maddening. You can't count cards or predict odds when a giant clown shoe can fall and change your suite at any time.

It’s clearly chasing the Balatro high but doesn't have the same tight balance. It feels more like a party game you’d play once while drunk and then forget. The humor is hit-or-miss—mostly miss. If you want a serious challenge, look elsewhere. If you want to waste fifteen minutes looking at weird art, this is fine, I guess.
