They Are Coming: Zombie Defense is a chaotic, bloody, and surprisingly addictive tower defense/action hybrid. The game’s minimalist 'ragdoll' physics give the combat a visceral feel that makes mowing down waves of the undead endlessly satisfying. It’s a game of escalation; you start with a simple pistol and eventually end up with chainsaws, shotguns, and automated turrets. The sense of power growth is very well-paced.
While the graphics are simple, the sheer volume of zombies on screen creates a genuine sense of panic. It’s less about complex strategy and more about resource management—deciding when to spend your cash on new weapons versus repairing your barricades. It does get a bit repetitive after long sessions, but as a pick-up-and-play title for blowing off steam, it’s excellent. The sheer variety of weapons and traps keeps you coming back to see what kind of carnage you can create in the next run.
I've killed enough zombies in my lifetime to fill a small country, so a game needs to bring something unique to the table for me to care. They Are Coming manages to do that with its physics. The way the zombies react to being hit—stumbling over each other, falling apart—is actually quite fun to watch. It’s got that old-school Flash game feel, back when games were more about visceral feedback than trying to sell you a battle pass. The weapon variety is solid, and there’s a genuine sense of panic when a massive wave starts closing in.
But after a few hours, the cracks start to show. The progression is slow, and you'll find yourself replaying the same early stages repeatedly just to afford a decent gun. It’s also a bit of a one-trick pony; once you’ve seen a hundred zombies explode into pixels, you’ve seen them all. It’s a 64—great for killing ten minutes while waiting for the train, but it’s not going to be anyone’s Game of the Year. It’s honest, brutal fun, but it’s limited.
Performance: Runs smoothly even with many entities on screen. Very few bugs reported.
