Our Site Score

89/100

Oaken is a tactical, turn-based roguelike that feels like a breath of fresh air. The hex-grid combat is deep and requires careful positioning—it’s not just about who hits harder, but where you stand and how you manipulate the battlefield. The 'Great Oak' setting is beautifully realized, with a mythical, forest-spirit vibe that makes the game world feel ancient and alive.

The deck-building elements are handled perfectly, allowing for a high degree of customization without feeling overwhelming. Each run feels distinct because the upgrades and spirits you encounter can drastically change your strategy. It’s a game that rewards patience and thinking several turns ahead. For fans of Slay the Spire or tactical RPGs, Oaken is an absolute must-play on mobile.

Dinsun Review

I was surprised to find something that wasn't a blatant cash-grab. *Oaken* is a proper game. It takes notes from *Slay the Spire* and combines them with tactical grid combat like *Into the Breach*. The result is a solid, albeit derivative, experience. The art is the standout here—it has a cozy, organic feel that separates it from the generic anime or 'clash' styles that dominate the store.

The gameplay is deep enough to keep an old-school strategy fan like me interested, though it doesn't quite reach the heights of the masters of the genre. Some of the card synergies are a bit unbalanced, and the difficulty can be punishing if the RNG doesn't go your way. But compared to the rest of the garbage on this platform, this is a gem. It’s a real game with real mechanics. It’s a shame it’s the exception and not the rule.
