North Tower: Merge TD Defense is a clever hybrid that successfully mashes up three different genres: Merge, Tower Defense, and Idle. The core mechanic of merging identical weapons to level them up is satisfyingly simple, but the tactical placement of those turrets is where the real strategy lies. It keeps you busy without being overwhelming.

The game also includes a simulation layer where you develop land and mines to generate resources, which feeds back into your tower upgrades. It’s a very well-rounded package that offers 'something for everyone'—from the quick dopamine hit of merging items to the long-term planning of base defense. While it does have some idle features, you’ll find yourself actively engaged during boss battles and the seasonal events, which are surprisingly generous with rewards. It’s a high-quality 3D experience that stands out in a crowded TD market.

I've been playing Tower Defense games since the Flash era, and North Tower is a disappointment. It’s not really a TD game; it’s a merge game where the towers just happen to shoot at things while you’re clicking. There is zero strategy in tower placement or synergy—just keep merging until the number on your tower is bigger than the number on the enemy.

It’s clearly designed for short sessions and heavy ad-watching. The gameplay is mind-numbing after the first ten minutes, and the 'hero' units are just extra buttons to click for a power-up. It lacks the soul of a real strategy game. If you want a TD game, go play Kingdom Rush and skip this empty shell.
