Fire Emblem Shadows in IOS

Find the beast traitor!

Our Site Score

85/100

Fire Emblem Shadows provides a remarkably deep tactical RPG experience that feels like a love letter to the strategy classics of the 90s. The grid-based combat is tight, and the importance of positioning cannot be overstated. Unlike many modern mobile RPGs that automate the fun away, Shadows demands your full attention, rewarding you for clever flanking maneuvers and careful resource management.

The 'Shadow' mechanic is the real star here. Having a secondary, ethereal version of your hero to manipulate the battlefield adds a brilliant twist to the standard Fire Emblem-style formula. The story is surprisingly somber and engaging, told through beautiful character portraits and well-written dialogue. It’s a must-play for anyone who misses the challenge of old-school tactical warfare.

Dinsun Review

Now this is more like it. Fire Emblem Shadows actually understands that tactical games need... tactics. It’s a proper Fire Emblem game, which means you have to actually care about where your units are and who they’re fighting. The weapon triangle is here, the classes are distinct, and the challenge is real. It’s one of the few games on this list that feels like a professional piece of software.

However, it does suffer from the modern Fire Emblem curse of having a story that’s a bit too 'anime' for my tastes. The dialogue can be cringeworthy, and the fanservice is a bit much. I miss the grit of the older titles. Also, the UI is a bit cluttered, trying to fit too much information onto a phone screen. But mechanically, it’s rock solid. If you can ignore the fluff, there’s a great strategy game here.
