Family Style: Co-op Kitchen in IOS

A Chaotic Kitchen Clamber

93/100

Family Style is pure, unadulterated chaos, and I love every second of it. It’s a cooperative cooking game that turns your group of friends into a screaming, laughing mess as you pass ingredients from one screen to another. The concept is simple: you have a recipe, but your friend has the ingredients you need, so you literally flick them across the table to their device.

It’s one of the few games that truly utilizes the physical space between players. The art is adorable, and the progression through different cuisines keeps the recipes feeling fresh. It’s the ultimate party game for a group of 2 to 8 people, though it might test the strength of your friendships when someone forgets to pass the tomatoes for the fifth time in a row.

Dinsun Review

Usually, I find 'hectic' games to be an excuse for poor design, but Family Style actually manages to make the chaos feel earned. The mechanic of passing ingredients between phones is tactile and clever. It’s one of the few mobile games that actually feels like a 'board game' night.

My gripe? It’s stressful. At 40, I don't necessarily want my blood pressure spiking while I'm trying to find a digital carrot. It’s also entirely dependent on having friends in the same room. If you’re alone, this game doesn't exist. For what it is, it's well-executed, if a bit shallow after the third or fourth round.
