I have fond memories of the original Cooking Mama games on the Nintendo DS—they were quirky, straightforward, and gave you a complete experience for your purchase. This mobile 'intro' version takes that same minigame formula and chops it up into restrictive pieces designed primarily to push you toward monetization. You chop a few vegetables, Mama gives her classic approval, and then you slam straight into a paywall.

It is hard to recommend an experience that feels so intentionally truncated. The touch controls for slicing and stirring work fine, but the lack of substantial content makes it feel hollow. If you just want a five-minute nostalgia trip, fine, but anyone looking for a fleshed-out cooking simulation will leave with a bitter taste in their mouth.
