Calling Chai a 'game' is a stretch of the definition that I'm not entirely comfortable with. It's a chatbot interface. As someone who appreciates systems and rules, the 'mechanics' here are entirely dependent on how much work the user puts into the conversation. The AI can be surprisingly coherent one moment and completely nonsensical the next.
The user-generated bots vary wildly in quality. For every well-crafted personality, there are ten that feel like they were written by a teenager in five minutes. There’s no win condition, no real progression, and the monetization model for 'premium' chat time is aggressive. It’s an interesting tech demo of Large Language Models, but as a gaming experience, it’s fundamentally lacking structure.
