Bugsnax is one of the most delightful and surprisingly deep adventure games on the App Store. At first glance, it looks like a colorful, whimsical game about catching snack-shaped bugs. However, once you land on Snaktooth Island, you discover a compelling mystery and a cast of Grumpuses that are written with incredible emotional depth. The core loop of discovering a new Bugsnak and figuring out the puzzle of how to catch it using your various tools is constantly engaging.
The mobile port is exceptionally well-handled. The touch controls for deploying traps and snapping photos are intuitive, and the vibrant art style looks stunning on Retina displays. Feeding Bugsnax to the islanders and watching their limbs transform into food is both hilarious and slightly disturbing in the best way possible. It’s a rare game that manages to be both a great puzzle-adventure and a heartfelt story about community. Don't let the cute exterior fool you; there's a real story here.
