I grew up playing 'NBA Street' on the PS2, so I have a high bar for streetball games. Basketrio tries to capture that energy but misses the mark where it matters most: the controls. In a 3v3 game, precision is everything, but the virtual joystick here feels like it's submerged in molasses. I'm 40 years old, my reflexes aren't what they used to be, but I know when a game is lagging, and the netcode in Basketrio is consistently frustrating. It's hard to play defense when your character responds to your input a half-second late.
The art style is fine if you're into the modern anime look, but it feels like the developers spent more time on the 'Gacha' systems for outfits and skill cards than on making the actual basketball feel good. You'll spend half your time in menus clicking through red dots and claiming daily rewards. It's a classic case of a game built around a monetization model rather than a mechanical core. If you want a serious basketball experience, stick to the main franchises. This is just a flashy costume-sim with some hoop-shooting on the side.
