Wings of Glory is a fantastic digital conversion of the beloved WWI tabletop dogfight game. It captures the 'knights of the air' aesthetic perfectly, with colorful biplanes and a tactical movement system that feels elegant yet deep. Instead of twitch reflexes, this game is about outmaneuvering your opponent by planning your cards a few moves ahead.
The challenge missions are a highlight, forcing you to think outside the box to complete reconnaissance or take down specific aces with limited resources. The ability to recruit famous pilots and expand your hangar with historically accurate planes like the Fokker D.VII adds a great sense of progression. It’s a niche title, but for fans of strategic wargaming or aviation history, it’s an absolute must-play that looks great on both tablets and phones.
Wings of Glory attempts to bring the high-stakes world of WWI aerial combat to the small screen, but it forgets that a game needs more than just a flight manual to be engaging. As a 40-year-old gamer who grew up on the classics, I appreciate the attention to detail in the aircraft models and the somewhat realistic physics, but the pacing is glacial. It feels less like an adrenaline-fueled dogfight and more like a spreadsheet-driven skirmish. The UI is cluttered, and the progression system feels like it was designed to test my patience rather than my skill. It’s functional, sure, but where is the soul? If you’re a die-hard history buff who enjoys meticulous planning, you might squeeze some enjoyment out of this. For the rest of us, it’s a bit of a slog.
Performance: Generally stable but tends to drain the battery quickly during longer sorties.
Buy if: You have an obsession with WWI aviation and don't mind a slow burn.
Skip if: You want an action-packed arcade flight experience.
