Look, I'm old school. When I want a story, I want a physical book with paper pages you can actually turn, or at the very least, a narrative-driven game that respects the art of storytelling. Vooks is essentially a streaming app for children's picture books with light animations thrown over the illustrations and a narrator reading the text. As a 40-year-old gamer, I find the whole concept a bit detached from actual interactive media, but I can recognize that it functions as intended for keeping young kids quiet.

That said, locking children's stories behind a monthly subscription model rubs me the wrong way. The animations are subtle—sometimes so subtle you wonder why they bothered animating it instead of just buying a real book—and the app structure feels sterile. It's fine for what it is, but it's hard to get excited about paying a tech company a recurring fee so your kid can look at moving pictures of a storybook they could read on paper.
