As a long-time fan of the original Temple Run, I was initially skeptical about a match-3 spin-off. However, this game thoroughly surprised me. It takes the familiar aesthetic of the temple, complete with the iconic idol and pursuing monkey, and translates it perfectly into a relaxing yet challenging puzzle format. It retains the soul of the franchise while offering a completely different mechanical experience.

The progression feels incredibly rewarding and well-paced. Unlike many free-to-play match-3 games that artificially inflate difficulty to sell you boosters, this Apple Arcade version feels perfectly tuned. You earn your victories through strategy and clever matching rather than opening your wallet. The graphics are sharp, the animations are fluid, and the sound design brilliantly evokes the tension of the classic endless runner.

I don't mind a good match-3 game to clear the head, but putting a 'Temple Run' skin on it feels desperate. The running sections—the core of the original's identity—are reduced to little cutscenes that play when you finish a level. It’s fine for what it is, but it’s essentially Candy Crush with more mud and monkeys.

The removal of the 'lives' system is the only thing that makes it bearable. Being able to just play without waiting for a timer is how all games should be, but it doesn't hide the fact that the mechanics are as cookie-cutter as they come. It’s polished, sure. The graphics are clean and the performance is steady. But it lacks any spark of originality. If you've played one match-3 in the last decade, you've played this. A total lack of ambition.
