Music trivia is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, SongPop Party is polished and has a broad enough library to keep a group entertained for an hour. On the other, it’s a 'twitch' game more than a 'knowledge' game. If you aren't hitting that button in the first 0.5 seconds, you've already lost. For a man my age, the frantic pace can feel more like a stress test than a relaxing evening with friends.
The Apple Arcade implementation is clean—no predatory 'energy' mechanics or buying playlists—which is a plus. However, the online matchmaking often pits you against people who seemingly live and breathe pop music, making the competitive 'Arena' feel like a chore. It’s better as a local party game, provided everyone has a phone and the same taste in decades. It does what it says on the tin, but it doesn't innovate.
