Skybrary carries forward the iconic legacy of Reading Rainbow with incredible charm and authenticity. Having LeVar Burton introduce reading adventures instantly imbues the app with warmth and authority that few other literacy platforms can replicate.

The UI concept—piloting a hot air balloon to different thematic islands—makes choosing a book feel like a grand adventure rather than schoolwork. The combination of digital picture books with real-world video field trips creates a powerful learning bridge: a child reads about space exploration and can immediately watch a video tour of NASA.

For parents and educators seeking meaningful, high-value screen time, Skybrary is an absolute gold standard. It respects a child's intelligence while keeping the process of reading joyful and boundless.

Dinsun Review

Any platform associated with LeVar Burton and the spirit of Reading Rainbow carries a certain amount of built-in goodwill for anyone who grew up watching public television in the '80s and '90s. Skybrary aims to translate that classic love of reading into a digital library format for modern kids, complete with read-aloud features and video field trips. As a 40-year-old gamer who values traditional literacy, I appreciate the educational intent behind the project.

However, living in an era where educational software is locked behind endless recurring subscription tiers takes some of the magic away. The app functions well enough, presenting a clean interface and a diverse catalog of stories. But from a pure media perspective, it's competing against physical libraries and simpler tools. It's a well-intentioned application, but much like other digital book services, it asks parents to pay a monthly toll for content that used to be freely accessible in schools and community libraries.

"My family loves it! They always use the app when we go on car rides or when they're bored at home. It's good to keep their imaginations going with reading. I totally recommend." - Parent @Gonzachr006

“When it comes to screen time, my son is allowed to use Skybrary anytime. I’ve never seen him concentrate so much and he asks so many interesting questions afterwards. I love it.” -ProudDad66

“I've been checking in with my teachers, and they are all very appreciative of Skybrary! I've been told it's a really big hit with the parents as well, having their children another reading option. The parents are always asking to send more books home (which is tough sometimes) and this has been a game changer in that regard. Teachers are using it as an enrichment tool as well." - Clever admin at North Tippah School District, MS
