When developers try to make deep, artistic statements by casting you as an everyday animal, I immediately raise an eyebrow. At forty years old, I have seen enough experimental indie titles try to disguise a lack of actual gameplay behind quirky premises and melancholy indie soundtracks. Pigeon: A Love Story puts you in the feathers of a city bird navigating urban life and romance, which sounds charmingly absurd until you realize there is barely any game here to speak of.
The presentation has a certain minimalist charm, and I can respect an artist trying to evoke empathy for creatures most people kick away from park benches. But narrative games still need to engage the player through interactive mechanics rather than just serving as an interactive picture book. The choices feel superficial, the pacing drags despite the short runtime, and once the novelty of playing as a pigeon wears off within the first fifteen minutes, you are left wishing for actual substance. Skip it unless you collect avant-garde mobile curiosities.
