★★★★★ Finally a game that’s not pay-to-win!
Sun Oct 13 2024 QuokkaFlockaFlameWhat a refreshing game. Well designed, fun “quests,” and a basic gameplay structure that’s just hard enough to make you stop and think every once in awhile. No timers, no power ups to buy, and while the keys needed to unlock each level are limited, they refresh pretty quickly, or you can (usually) watch an ad to get a couple more. To be honest, I appreciate games that don’t just let me play forever without forcing me in to a break, so the time gating is a genuine value add for me.
The free version does have ads, but they’re mercifully brief by mobile game standards, with most seeming to run around 15 seconds or so.
My only slight complaint is that I wish they had a flat fee to kill ads forever, even if it’s higher than the monthly rate. I’d never pay monthly for a game, even one as good as this, but I’m always happy to pay devs for their work as long as it’s one-and-done.
★★★★★ Fun enough
Mon Nov 13 2023 jasonsherlockThe gameplay in this is great, I have been picking it up every opportunity to get a few levels done and try to stay competitive in the multiplayer league. Zipping through the levels and solving the puzzles has been a fun challenge with some changing level elements that add an interesting twist.
I wanted to leave a review with 4 stars just to mention my displeasure that they’ve switched to a subscription-based ad removal system which also removes the time required to wait for more keys to continue playing. Like I get why they would but I’d much sooner pay more for a one-time fee like many other games instead. Also I’ve somehow only experienced this with this game, but the ads come on unmuted and will stop anything else I’m listening to at the same time, it’s incredibly disruptive and I’m sure designed this way to drive people to pay in to the subscription service.
I hope there will be more level variation added in the future, maybe similar to the other mowing game, right now it’s a rotation of the same few level elements in different combinations.
★★★★★ Just not as fun
Sat Nov 11 2023 timidFantasistI love Protostar! I have Super Starfish and Literally Just Mowing and Dream Hopper, and I love them all. When I saw a new game from them, I jumped on it. Unfortunately, it just isn’t as good.
Starfish has no energy system. You can swim through the galaxy as long and as many times as you want. You can decorate your sanctuary with pretty sparkly plants and collect fish. There’s plenty to make you happy when you open the game. Dream Hopper never fails to relax me and I love reliving the random dreams. Literally Just Mowing has creature collection, the toolboxes, and mower customization. It’s a relaxing pace.
This game has…zipping at top speed through mazes for coins and stars. I’m only in Silver league and I already can’t keep up as a free player. I don’t care about changing my skin or eye color. I haven’t seen a single outfit offered. Half the time the toolbox guy offers me real money deals instead of toolboxes. The quests aren’t worth the time they take (one guy challenged me to finish five more mazes and I got absolutely nothing at the end of it). I’m honestly really sad about it. After the initial fun of unlocking the NPCs, it gets boring and simply isn’t worth it.
★★★★★ Uninstalling for the Second Time
Mon Apr 15 2024 GateFan1Unfortunately I will be uninstalling this game once this review is written. The first time I uninstalled this game, I had a score of 7000+ points. My second time around, I have nearly 4000 points. For the second time,an ad has glitched, getting stuck. The first time, I did not get an “X” to exit the ad. This time it is stuck on the “X” and will not close.
I have put up with the long, annoying ads, having to pay for coins, and not being able to pay a one-time fee to remove the ads because I like this game and find it rather addicting. I have Protostar’s other mowing game as well.
I am rather disappointed that I will no longer be able to play this game but honestly it’s probably best because the ads are annoying, too long, and too frequent. It’s also shameful the way this game takes your money. The only option to get rid of ads and get keys you need to play the mazes is to pay a monthly fee of $5.00. Ridiculous. That should be a one-time fee, not a recurring fee. As it is, I invested a whole ton of time and money in this game only to lose it all as the game has become unplayable. As a result, I am leaving a one star review. My enjoyment has been ruined.
★★★★★ Fun game but too many adds
Sun Sep 01 2024 Penny girl 💕At first the game is so fun and there are only like 2 adds every 6 rounds. And a guy named slick gives them to you. but when you get to level 25ish there are ads after every single round. Also there needs to be more room for the keys. I want to play more than 10 rounds without having to wait 10 minutes. there are also very good things like trying to find peoples stuff. I think that is a very good addition to the game. it is a fun thing to look forward to. but in all, I think this is a very good game!!! Just please make more room for the keys and make less ads!😀❤️💕 I also love meeting new people in the game but please protostar less ads and more key space pls pls pls!! And I wish there was more options for your character and it’s so satisfying to mow the grass
(Edit) And I just found the secret passageways through the bush💜💜💜💜AMAZING 💯💯💯💯💯
★★★★★ Fun- but definitely has ads
Wed Dec 04 2024 Dusty AssetsGame is for some reason soothing to me. One thing I like is that if you need extra keys you can watch some ads, can deal with that. But there are a lot of ads between some levels. I wouldn’t mind if the ads had the following content 1. If you have sound off on the game. The ads shouldn’t have volume either. Have missed many calls from forgetting to turn volume back up. 2. The game ads should actually allow you to play a level or round, not watch a finger constantly go to the wrong solutions. Very annoying.
3. Ads reflect what the game is like- not just special events. 4. I really like the little side quests, wish there were more. It’s fun smacking into the farm animals to round them up.
★★★★★ No time to play because of ads
Tue Nov 14 2023 ThuggnuttI like the challenge of this game. It is simple to understand and has a lot of variety within the mazes. However, the ads are too much! After every other maze you are treated with an ad you don’t want about something you won’t buy anyway. The only way to avoid this is to subscribe monthly. It is not worth the subscription fees. At least with its predecessor, the aptly named and simple “Just Mowing” it was possible to just buy the “No Ads” option and be done with it. I wouldn’t have played over 900 levels of “Just Mowing,” if it were inundated with ads like “Mowing Mazes” It falls into the category of games that I only play once in a while because of the bombardment of ads within them. I understand the need to make money. I don’t understand why it requires one every other level, especially since I won’t get the product advertised because I see the ad way way too often. I’d pay one time for no ads.
★★★★★ Ok, but not great
Thu Aug 08 2024 Rubyfox15This game is ok, but definitely doesn’t compare to It’s Literally Just Mowing. The game finally got cloud saving, but unfortunately I feel that it won’t help the game’s reputation since you still have to pay 5 dollars a month to remove ads compare to It’s Literally Just Mowing’s one-time payment. Also, the league aspect makes the game feel stressful and not relaxing at all since it feels like you have to mow constantly to stay in the promotion zone or risk staying in the same league or being demoted to the previous league. Getting rid of the league aspect might help the game to feel more relaxing and less stressful. If the league aspect does eventually get removed at some point, the league hats should be earned by mowing a certain amount of mazes, similar to how you earn special hats in It’s Literally Just Mowing for finding all of the birds, cats, dogs, butterflies, and farm animals.
