Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale in IOS

A card-based dungeon crawler

94/100

Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale is a brilliant evolution of the roguelike deckbuilder. While 'Journeys' introduced us to this quirky world, Krumit's Tale adds a layer of tactical depth with its grid-based system that is absolutely addictive. Instead of just swiping cards, you're managing a 3x3 board where items, abilities, and enemies coexist. Choosing when to buy an item using your limited gold versus when to discard it for a quick boost is a constant, agonizing strategic choice that makes every run feel meaningful.

The art style remains iconic—expressive, hand-drawn, and full of personality. Each of the five heroes feels fundamentally different; playing as Greybeard the mage requires a completely different mindset than playing as Mischief the rogue. The game is perfectly optimized for mobile, with a portrait-mode layout that makes it the ideal one-handed game for commutes. With a wealth of unlockables, daily challenges, and a steep New Game+ ladder, this is a game you can play for hundreds of hours and still find new synergies. It’s a masterpiece of the genre.

Now this is more like it. It’s a mobile game that actually feels like it was designed for gamers, not just for draining wallets. The grid system adds a layer of spatial strategy that was missing from the first game. You have to decide which enemies to engage and when to cash out your items for more energy. It’s a delicate balance that feels rewarding when you get it right.

The art style isn't quite my speed—it’s a bit too 'modern cartoon' for a guy my age—but I can’t deny it has personality. Most importantly, the game is fair. When you lose, it's usually because you mismanaged your items, not because the RNG screwed you. It’s a solid, well-built strategy game that actually belongs on a phone.
