If you’ve played one merge game, you’ve played them all, and Merge Fantasy Island doesn't break the mold. What it does do is look significantly better than its competitors. The art style is undeniably charming, and the Kuyas have a lot of personality. Netmarble knows how to polish a mobile title. However, as an 'expert' who's seen the evolution of this genre, the gameplay is still just a massive time sink designed to tempt you with premium currency. The stamina system is as restrictive as ever, and the 'pay-to-progress' wall hits hard once you've cleared the initial zones. It’s a high-quality hamster wheel. If you like the genre, this is one of the better ones visually, but don't expect it to respect your time or your wallet in the long run.
