This is what passes for creative mashups in the mobile industry now. Meowdoku! takes standard Sudoku—a perfectly fine, functional paper puzzle—and replaces the numbers with cartoon cat heads. Frankly, it actually makes the game harder to play for the wrong reasons. At 40, my eyes do not want to squint at a tiny screen trying to distinguish between a slightly grumpy tabby tile and a slightly sad Siamese tile when a clean digit from 1 to 9 would do the job instantly.
The game performs its basic functional duty adequately. The grids are mathematically correct, the touchscreen response is clean, and the cat sound effects aren't completely annoying. But beneath the cute surface, there is absolutely zero innovation here. It is just another casual vector puzzle trying to coast on the internet's bottomless appetite for cat aesthetics while feeding you constant monetization nudges to remove ads.
