Look, I've played enough of these hole-swallowing physics games over the years to know exactly what to expect. Hole Stars doesn't reinvent the wheel. You drag a black hole across a colorful grid, swallow toys and trinkets, watch your hole expand, and try to clear the board before the clock ticks down. For five minutes in a waiting room, it does what it needs to do. The mechanical physics feel fine and swallowing large piles of junk carries a mild level of satisfaction.
My problem lies with the monetization structure and artificial choke points. Early stages give you a false sense of progression, but soon enough, the timers grow tight and board layouts get intentionally messy to push power-ups and stamina purchases. It feels manufactured rather than organic. The visuals are bright and readable, but the sound design gets repetitive very fast. At 40, I value solid design over flashy reward screens, and Hole Stars relies far too much on the latter to disguise a derivative loop.
