As someone who appreciates a well-designed board game, I can respect what Explorers is trying to do. It’s a clean, no-nonsense adaptation of the physical game. The logic is sound, the rules are implemented correctly, and it avoids the flashy, unnecessary animations that usually bog down digital tabletop ports. It’s a game of efficiency—trying to squeeze the most points out of a limited map. I like the 'flip-and-write' mechanic; it’s a bit more cerebral than your average mobile time-waster.
But here’s the rub: it feels sterile. One of the joys of tabletop gaming is the tactile feel and the social interaction, both of which are stripped away here, leaving you with a somewhat dry optimization puzzle. The UI is efficient but looks like it was made in a spreadsheet program. It’s perfectly playable, and the solo challenges provide a decent bit of friction, but it lacks that 'just one more turn' hook that makes the best strategy games essential. It’s a 68—good for a plane ride, but it won't replace the box on your shelf.
