Downhill Smash has a decent hook—rolling a giant spiked ball down a hill to crush things is undeniably satisfying for about twenty minutes. The physics-based destruction is the highlight here; seeing structures crumble feels weighted and impactful. However, once the initial novelty wears off, you're left with a very standard mobile grind. The difficulty spikes are clearly tuned to encourage spending money on upgrades, which is a trope I’ve grown very tired of. The visuals are stylish in a post-apocalyptic sort of way, but the gameplay loop is as repetitive as it gets. It’s a competent distraction, but it lacks the depth or variety to keep a serious gamer engaged for the long haul. It’s the digital equivalent of bubble wrap: fun to pop, but you wouldn't call it a masterpiece.
