Armor Sandbox is an absolute treat for anyone fascinated by ballistics, mechanics, and raw physics simulation. Instead of relying on scripted animations, the game simulates impact physics down to individual particle behaviors, making every test feel authentic and unpredictable. Watching how different rounds interact with sloped armor or seeing molten metal flow under extreme heat is hypnotically entertaining.
The interface is clean, placing all the necessary tools right at your fingertips while allowing you to slow down time or step through crashes frame by frame. Whether you are tweaking tank designs, testing explosive payloads, or importing community creations, the depth of experimentation available is staggering.
With a fair one-time purchase model that completely ditches ads and microtransactions, Armor Sandbox respects its players and delivers a specialized sandbox experience that you can easily lose hours exploring.
Calling Armor Sandbox a 'game' is generous—it's a physics tool disguised as a mobile app. As someone who appreciates technical detail, watching WWII shells fragment or tungsten darts punch through simulated plates in frame-by-frame slomo is fascinating for an hour or two.
However, without objective-driven missions, progression, or a proper campaign, it quickly devolves into setting up repetitive impact scenarios. It works fine as an offline tech sandbox, but don't expect actual gaming depth beyond raw physical experimentation.
Performance: Very lightweight footprint (~7 MB). Excellent particle frame rates with frame-by-frame inspection capability.
Buy if: You are obsessed with ballistics, physics simulations, or armor penetration dynamics.
Skip if: You expect structured game levels, character progression, or traditional combat gameplay.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod
Version 1.8.9Sun Oct 25 2026
Big update:
• New phone layout: the menus float at the top, Fire sits on the left and Record is always at hand.
• Favorites in the Library, and a visible Delete button for your own designs.
• Tanks no longer fall apart after a light hit or a while after a shot.
• More realistic penetration: WWII tank shells stay whole and go through the armour the real ones did, tungsten carbide cores no longer turn to dust, molten metal flows like a liquid, and the holes darts leave are cleaner.
• Now on iPad, full screen in landscape or portrait.
• Importing designs works on iPhone and iPad, and iPhones in Spanish or Chinese open the game in their own language.
• Fixes from players: tilt snaps back to 0, a pinch no longer drags the shot, and a quick tap no longer starts the hold circle.
• Thanks to NerdWord for the interface suggestions, to @ag_bee for the anatomical dummy body, and stability improvements.
Requires iOS 15.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.Armor Sandbox is a 2D impact physics playground. Pick something to shoot, pick something to shoot at, and watch what actually happens.
Nothing here is a canned animation. Every plate, every projectile and every fragment is made of particles that carry real material properties: density, strength, melting point, heat capacity. Deformation, fracture, spalling, heat, fire and detonation all follow from those numbers. Swap the steel for glass and it shatters instead of denting, because glass is brittle, not because somebody drew a shatter effect.
WHAT IS IN IT
• More than 110 materials: steels, aluminium alloys, tungsten, tantalum, ceramics and glass, concrete and stone, wood, rubber, water, fuel, explosives and working electrical parts
• More than 60 projectiles, from pistol rounds to APFSDS long rods, shaped charges and hypervelocity rods
• More than 90 targets: plates, layered armour packages, deep blocks, circuits
• More than 35 vehicles in cutaway: T-34-85, Tiger I, Panther, Sherman, IS-2, T-55, M103, T-72 with and without reactive armour, M1A2 Abrams, Leopard 2A6, Challenger 2, BMP-1 and M113, plus cars, trucks, a school bus, a farm tractor and aircraft, each with its armour, ammunition, fuel and engine where they really sit
• More than 60 ready-made experiments to start from
MAKE YOUR OWN
Paint projectiles and targets cell by cell, choosing the material of every cell. Mirror, outline, replace, snap to a grid. Save them to your library, and send a design to a friend as a single small file.
WIRE IT UP
Batteries, capacitors, switches, sensors and delay lines. Current only goes where you drew a path: an insulated wire running along steel leaves the steel dead, bare copper makes the whole plate live. Lamps, heaters, electromagnets and high-voltage sparks that jump the air.
SEE WHAT THE EYE CAN'T
Watch the same impact in four views: normal, heat, speed and damage. Time slows down by itself around the impact, and you can pause, step through it frame by frame and fire again.
NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS, NO TRACKING
The app makes no network requests of its own. Nothing you build leaves your iPhone unless you share it yourself.
FREE TO WATCH, ONE PURCHASE TO CREATE
Watching is free. Every built-in experiment runs in full, explosives, nuclear devices and circuits included, and so does every vehicle and every material a preset uses. Opening a design someone sent you is free too.
The full version is for making things: painting with energetic, nuclear and electrical materials, a library without the five-per-kind limit, exporting your designs, and the Extreme and Maximum quality levels. One payment, no subscription, no ads either way.
Armor Sandbox is a physics simulation made for curiosity. Everything happens to particles in a 2D cross-section, and nothing in it is a guide to building anything real.
