Assemble with Care is an absolute masterclass in 'cozy' gaming. It manages to turn the mundane task of fixing household electronics into a deeply meditative and emotionally resonant experience. The developers at ustwo games have a knack for making digital interactions feel physical, and every screw turned or wire soldered feels weighted and intentional. It’s not just about the gadgets, though; it’s about the people who own them.
The writing is gentle but poignant, exploring themes of family tension, aging, and the fear of letting go. By the time I finished repairing a simple music box, I felt like I truly knew the characters involved. It’s a short experience, but it lingers in your mind like a warm memory. If you’re looking for a game that values empathy and craftsmanship over high scores and adrenaline, this is an essential play.
Klei usually makes better games than this, but Hot Lava is still a good bit of fun. The physics are the real star—once you master the 'surfing' mechanic, you feel like you’re flying. It’s hard, though. The first-person perspective on a touch screen is a nightmare, so if you don't have a controller, don't even bother. The 90s nostalgia is laid on a bit thick, but it’s charming enough. My main issue is the invisible touch controls; I kept hitting 'crouch' when I wanted to jump. It’s a game for people who like to perfect a single run for hours.
Performance: Runs well, but requires a modern device for a stable 60fps. Gyro controls are available.
Buy if: You love speedrunning and high-skill movement mechanics.
Skip if: You get motion sickness or hate repetitive trial-and-error gameplay.
Available on: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod
