Monomals is honestly one of the most creative hidden gems on the App Store. It’s effectively two games in one: a polished, physics-based platformer and a surprisingly deep DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). The 'fishing' part is challenging enough to be engaging, with some levels requiring genuine precision to dodge obstacles while hunting down elusive Monomals.
But the real magic happens in the studio. Seeing the creatures you just caught turn into drum loops or synth leads is incredibly satisfying. I’ve spent hours just tweaking tracks to try and climb the global charts. It’s colorful, charming, and sounds absolutely fantastic. If you have any interest in music or creative games, this is a mandatory download.
Dinsun's take: I usually avoid anything that looks this bright, but the music creation tool is where the real meat is. The fishing gameplay is fine—standard platforming with a hook—but it's really just a gatekeeper for the sound samples.
It’s a bit too 'modern' for my taste with its online sharing focus, but I can't deny the technical polish. The controls are responsive, and the loop-making is intuitive enough even for those of us who didn't grow up with a tablet in our hands. It's a solid production, even if the 'fun' feels a bit manufactured at times.
Performance: Early crash reports have been addressed; runs smoothly on Silicon-based devices.
Buy if: You have a creative streak and enjoy making music as much as playing levels.
Skip if: You want a serious, high-stakes action game without the creative fluff.
Available on: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod

Gameplay is split between the 'Catch' phase and the 'Compose' phase. In the Catch phase, you control a plug that acts as a platforming character. In the Compose phase, you use the 'MonoMaker' to arrange your caught Monomals into professional-sounding tracks.
