Got a sword. Got a pickaxe. Let’s make some money.
Fri Sep 03 2021 Detroitalan01This is a fun, pixel art game that can be played in quick bouts or for longer durations. With each new game, it feels like you’re seeing more and more of what D&M has to offer. But, it’s not perfect.
Offering souls to enter a treasure room consistently results in a crash. Sometimes entering/exiting a dungeon results in a crash. The dungeons occasionally have black bars in the playing area that obstruct your view.
The good thing is none of these are game breaking. This is a rogue type. You’ll die a lot. Thankfully, all of your accumulated gold and gear is saved—even when the game crashes. So while you do get set back, you’re still better equipped.
Despite the issues, Dungeons & Miners is worth the price. There are a few bugs. But, it’s not like Baldo which is basically unplayable. It would be nice if you had the ability to select different skins/costumes for your character. He is a bit drab and minimalistic. But, that doesn’t detract from the fun to be had raiding dungeons and mining for ore.
Pocket portrait roguelite
Tue Sep 07 2021 B.riahI’m really liking it so far, with some caveats that the developer is addressing. The pixel art is gorgeous and evocative, and well animated. The sound design is also extremely good. I like that it’s playable one handed in portrait, though more often I’ll use both hands. The core gameplay loop (enter mines, dig and look for dungeon entrances, delve the dungeon and get treasure until you die and return to town, buy upgrades and repeat) is very compelling.
There’s also some jank around the edges. There have been some crash bugs, some ways to get stuck enough that you have to quit the app to abort a run, etc, many of which bugs are fixed in today’s patch. I’m finding progression to be a challenge due to my limited skill, and also there’s an upgrade material that I just can’t find yet, which is sort of maddening. It’s definitely got me hooked, though, and if a mobile portrait-orientation roguelite with a really compelling presentation is appealing to you, I’d say it’s easily worth the price. Based on the developer’s responsiveness and track record from previous games, I think it’s likely to keep getting better.
Game is super fun so far but buggy.
Thu Sep 30 2021 BazorilGame constantly locks up when trying to enter dungeons, I guess it’s when your character isn’t exactly on the door judging by things so far. You can also dash through walls and get stuck by dropping down from things like stairs and quickly hitting dash towards a wall. When mining left or right sometimes a single block can get stuck and you will just keep swinging and not hit. So far I have just been able to back up and swing from another angle fortunately. You can also get stuck automining stairs which prevents you from getting to doors you should be able to. There’s an area that i cleared once that a dragon takes you to and a door opens after a sort of boss and when I went back the door wouldn’t open again so I had to close the game. The game also crashed when switching pets, red crystals became available at lvl 10 I think so they showed up eventually.
Review after completion
Fri Oct 08 2021 AndrieuxStarts out amazing and then the bugs and small world diminish the potential awesomeness. Dungeons and mining area gets repetitive pretty quickly. The imp pet is bugged and vanishes( I acquired him before i had a quest for it). There appears to only be two swords you can find and build, the fire and the death one. There’s stairs in the dungeon with glowing yellow light that wont let you more than half way up. The heart belt is buggy and gives you so much health over time that it goes off the screen. The drone boss can be visited over and over but there is no way to kill him after the first time and so you cant ever leave the area. The warning when you get there drone goes no where and the ending is lazy at best. This game could be something incredible but i think you released it too soon. Add some depth and fix the huge pile of bugs
Bizarre and interesting
Fri Sep 03 2021 StagnationsThis game takes a few common tropes and puts a weird spin on them. It’s weird and unexpected. Once you hit the main game loop, there is enough new things trickling in to keep you interested. It also harvests NO information about you, which is awesome! I’ve hit a number of bugs which prevent this from being a 5-star rating. You can very easily clip through walls. I’ve had one crash and one soft lock. And the UI has not been adapted to fit the notch on this iphone, making me guess how much health and gold I actually have.
GREAT GAME!
Fri Dec 02 2022 Lilmya11111111I have no idea why this game doesn’t have all 5 star reviews! Such an awesome game! Great old school pixelated animation, funny story-line, entertaining mixture of hack & slash plus mining… what more could you ask for? It takes a little bit to really get into so give it time, you won’t regret it!
P.S. Now that I’ve played this game for quite a while I keep running into a force close big, which is very frustrating! Seems like it happens when I try and enter a new door in a dungeons in the mine. Please fix! I love this game!
Patience helps
Wed Dec 08 2021 jimhusseyWorked through much of this, found lots of tressures, coins & crystals. Never could fix the castle, nor find missing people . Not sure why. Flew with the dragon to a new location; couldnt kill, or even hurt the giant spider. Completed almost every treasure but almost no quests.
Found prisnors below castle, but couldn't help them. Lots of puzzling things. Fun to try , worth checking out .
Great premise, poor execution
Sat Sep 04 2021 Rone42At first glance, this game has a lot to offer — the premise of pairing dungeon loot with digging for buried treasure sounds fantastic, and I was really looking forward to getting hooked.
Unfortunately, the game starts with a cold open that leaves you wondering what to do (I stared at the campfire screen for a solid minute until I realized that I was supposed to start moving), and the controls are explained in a scroll (pop-up window) that is displayed to the player once and ONLY once.
(It took me forever to figure out the ladders after accidentally dismissing the instructions a split second after they unexpectedly appeared on the screen. This is an unacceptable interface / polish flaw.)
The game may get better later on, but from an interface and polish perspective, it is DECIDEDLY mediocre, especially in the initial stages when first impressions matter most.
I like supporting small developers and non-microtransaction games, but I deeply regret this purchase.
