Magic Sort! takes a familiar concept and polishes it to a mirror finish. There’s something incredibly satisfying about the liquid physics and the 'clink' of the bottles that makes the experience feel premium. It’s my go-to game for commutes because it doesn't demand intense focus, yet it's challenging enough to keep my brain from going into autopilot.
The difficulty curve is very fair. You never feel like a level is truly impossible, just that you haven't found the right sequence yet. I particularly appreciate the lack of aggressive monetization; the ads are present but manageable, and the 'undo' feature is a lifesaver during late-night play sessions. It's not reinventing the wheel, but it’s a very well-built wheel that provides exactly the kind of relaxing mental stimulation it promises.
I don't know what to tell you. It’s FreeCell. We’ve had this on every Windows machine since 1995. This specific version is functional, the cards move when you swipe them, and the ads aren't as intrusive as some of the other trash on the App Store. But it doesn't do anything to justify its existence over the dozens of other identical clones. The UI is a bit dated, and the 'customization' is just a few low-res backgrounds.
I appreciate that it doesn't try to be something it’s not—there are no 'battle pass' systems or weird energy bars—but it also lacks any sort of modern polish. It's the digital equivalent of a generic deck of cards. If you need FreeCell and this is the first result you see, go ahead. But don't expect to be impressed by the 'innovative' card-flipping technology.
Performance: Runs on practically any hardware; no bugs found in the logic.
Buy if: You have a sudden, inexplicable urge to play FreeCell and don't care about aesthetics.
Skip if: You already have a card game app or expect any form of innovation.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod
